Fundraising Manager - Foundations (Oakland)
Position Summary
Global Footprint Network is seeking a full-time Fundraising Manager - Foundations who can manage multiple deadlines, is organized, and is a compelling writer that will expedite the strategic expansion of the organization’s foundation fundraising activities and become an integral partner with the Senior Manager, External Affairs. This position will move the organization to the next level of visibility and success within the foundation community, and this person must be particularly gifted in building long-lasting relationships with funders. This position will be responsible for writing, managing and executing all activities related to grant submissions for Global Footprint Network’s annual fundraising. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Operations and will work closely with the President. Additionally, this person will collaborate with staff throughout the organization to develop project ideas, create compelling language for proposals and reports, and ensure that grant objectives are met.
Performance Profile
Specific responsibilities include:
- Researching and applying for foundation funding that comprises approximately 50% of Global Footprint Network’s annual fundraising objective for 2013.
- Partnering with Vice President of Operations to maintain good relationships with foundation officers.
- Ensuring that grant objectives are accomplished within parameters outlined by the grant which includes integrating grant objectives, tracking progress toward objectives within the organization and producing reports required by the funder.
- Researching, writing, assembling, reviewing and submitting all LOIs, grant applications, and foundation reports within deadlines.
- Conducting meetings to identify and prioritize project needs and coordinate grant preparation assignments with program staff.
- Providing timely advice and information to Vice President of Operations, President, and program staff on funding opportunities, requirements and procedures.
- Attending foundation meetings and liaising with foundation officers as appropriate.
- Serving as a resource to the President and other staff on foundation funding programs and opportunities, providing information, research, analysis, written reports and recommendations as needed.
- Assisting the Vice President of Operations in identifying new foundation opportunities for Global Footprint Network in the US and abroad.
- Working with Vice President of Operations to assess a broader scope of fundraising opportunities such as expanded online fundraising, campaign fundraising and other financing models.
- Participating in other special projects, tasks and initiatives as needed.

Associate, External Affairs (Oakland)
Position Summary
Global Footprint Network’s External Affairs Department coordinates all aspects of the organization’s revenue stream, including foundations, individual donors, and project development/client services. The Associate, External Affairs will provide support across the department, particularly in coordinating foundation deadlines, supporting the administrative process of project development, coordinating online fundraising efforts, and assisting with building our individual donor base. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Operations and will work closely with the President. Additionally, this person will collaborate with staff throughout the organization to develop project ideas, capture compelling language for proposals and reports, and ensure that grant objectives are met.
Performance Profile
Specific responsibilities include:
Foundation Support
- Supporting External Affairs Foundation Manger in providing foundation research, submitting letters of intent (LOIs), grant proposals and grant reports.
- Help prioritize foundation funding streams and match foundation grants to project development proposals.
- Maintain thematic program content and materials for Global Footprint Network staff and grant writers.
- Provide database support with regards to foundation contacts and opportunity information within SalesForce.
Project Development Support
- Coordinate the project development pipeline, across the organization:
- Monitor quarterly goals;

Senior Economist (Geneva)
Position Summary
The Senior Economist will be based within the growing team of the Global Footprint Network European Program in Geneva and he/she will report to the President and the Director for Europe with regular interaction with the Director for Research. His or her main responsibilities are to provide analytical, project development and implementation support to science-related activities and client services provided by the organization with special emphasis on leading all activities related to applied economics.
Performance Profile
The Senior Economist will lead and position the Global Footprint Network as a key player in the economic arena by expanding ongoing initiatives such as Competitiveness 2.0 and the engagement with the Financial Services Industry whilst advancing the ongoing work of the Global Footprint Network in applying its products and service to an economic audience.
Scope: The main responsibilities of this role are described as follows:
- Leads the implementation and development of projects that apply the economic aspects of the Footprint and biocapacity approach to international development, the financial services industry, national competitiveness strategies, and corporate strategies.
- In close collaboration with colleagues in Oakland and Geneva, build on the further establishment of Global Footprint Network as the economic literate voice in advancing the implementation of sustainable development.
- Develop content for projects and assist in developing an European fundraising strategy and roadmap for new Global Footprint Network initiatives in collaboration with Geneva and Oakland based staff.
- Develop and deliver to projects that apply the economic aspects of the Footprint and biocapacity approach to international development, the financial services industry, national competitiveness strategies, and corporate strategies.

Database Assistant (Part-time, Oakland)
Position Summary
The Database Assistant is responsible for performing necessary tasks to update Global Footprint Network’s Salesforce database. He/She can expect to develop lists, enter and manage contacts, classify contacts, and help out with general administrative tasks associated with fundraising mailings. A critical aspect of the job is to pay strict attention to detail, proactively communicate with supervisor about prioritization of workload demands, and maintain timely entries to the database efficiently. This position reports to the Database Associate.

- Perform data entry, and maintain consistency of data input into Salesforce.
- Produce lists for mailings and merge lists into email and word documents when necessary.
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance including (but not limited to) purging duplicates, mass upload of new entries, fixing data entry errors in existing records, building hierarchies, managing users.

Senior Manager, External Affairs (Oakland)
Position Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to spearhead Global Footprint Network’s major donor program, creating and fostering long-term stakeholder relationships that grow our financial resources and network globally. As Senior Manager, External Affairs you will work closely with the organization’s Founders, Susan Burns and Mathis Wackernagel, and be the primary liaison with our global Board of Directors. Further, you will seek out and cultivate new relationships that strengthen our organization and lay the foundation for future growth. To be successful in this position you must be seasoned, organized, discreet, and highly motivated to create mutually beneficial relationships with a group of influential individuals working toward achieving our mission.
The Senior Manager, External Affairs will report to the Head of Client Services.
Performance Profile
The main responsibilities of this position include:
- Executing all aspects of the organization’s Major Gifts program which accounts for about 30% of Global Footprint Network’s annual budget;
- Planning and executing high-profile events for our Board, VIPs and donors throughout the year;

Manager, Client Services (Oakland)
Position Summary
Global Footprint Network is seeking a full time Manager Client Services to join its team based in Oakland, CA. The incumbent will primarily work in the Oakland office and coordinate all the Global Footprint Network projects across all offices. The Manager, Client Services will report to the Director of Client Services.
Objective:
This position provides important support in the fulfillment of Global Footprint Network obligations, managing Application Projects and other types of deliverables as assigned. The post consists of two key roles: 1) project oversight, coordination and management including scoping and implementation to an agreed-to set of timelines and milestones; and 1) project development.
Performance Profile
The main responsibilities include:

Proven experience in managing complex projects in parallel. This will include but not limited to:

Internships
Global Footprint Network is currently seeking interns to assist in several departments. See below for descriptions of specific internship opportunities and information on how to apply to each.
Successful applicants for all positions will be motivated, responsible, and self-starters, able to work with minimum direction. Applicants should be interested in sustainability, global resource issues, ecological economics, and resource analysis. We are especially interested in applicants with backgrounds or experience in: ecology, environmental science, earth systems, urban planning, resource management, or business (especially current MBA students).
Interns will work closely with all staff, including experienced business consultants and Dr. Mathis Wackernagel, co-creator of the Ecological Footprint. All interns will also be asked to support the administrative functions of the organization. This may include arranging and supporting meetings, assisting with correspondence, updating the contact database, and overseeing production and mailing of materials.
Individuals who feel they can make a positive contribution to the Global Footprint Network by bringing a different combination of skills are also encouraged to apply.
Time and Compensation: We are now accepting applications for spring and summer interns. We prefer full time interns, though a part-time arrangement may be possible. There is a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week for three months. Hours are flexible. Gourmet healthy lunches are provided daily. Carbon Footprint Intern
Position Summary
The Department of Research & Standards within Global Footprint Network strives towards the continuous improvement of the science of the Ecological Footprint and develops projects rigorously grounded in its methodology. We are seeking an intern to conduct research and refine methodology in our Carbon Footprint analysis.
Course work or experience in environmental science/engineering, climate modeling, biology, marine biology, ecosystem ecology, climatology and/or biogeochemistry would be good areas of background knowledge. Key skills required include excellent writing, research and time management; strong quantitative abilities; solid computer skills and intermediate to advanced Excel capability. Applicants should have a good grasp of the concept of sustainability and its current applications. An understanding of basic statistics is very useful. Interns will work closely with several staff members in Research & Standards.
Qualifications
Successful applicants will be motivated and responsible self-starters. Applicants should be interested in sustainability, global resource issues, ecological economics, and/or resource analysis. We are especially interested in graduate and advanced undergraduate students in fields such as: Forestry, environmental science, climatology, engineering, earth science, biology, and/or ecology. Global Footprint Network is seeking a finance/accounting & administration intern to assist with a range of functions. Forestry Research Intern
Position Summary

Course work or experience in agronomy, grass and grasslands, plant and soil biology, livestock feeding, and/or ecology would be good areas of background knowledge. Key skills required include excellent writing, research and time management; strong quantitative abilities; solid computer skills and intermediate to advanced Excel capability. Applicants should have a good grasp of the concept of sustainability and its current applications. An understanding of basic statistics is very useful. Interns will work closely with several staff members in Research & Standards.

Global Footprint Network is an international think tank working to advance sustainability through the use of the Ecological Footprint, a resource accounting tool that measures how much nature we have, how much we use and who uses what. Computable General Equilibrium Intern
Position Summary
The Department of Research & Standards within Global Footprint Network leads the continuous improvement of the science of the Ecological Footprint, and develops projects rigorously grounded in its methodology.
We are seeking an intern to assist in the development of a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model for Ecological Footprint analysis, to formulate scenarios and run policy simulations. Global Footprint Network currently uses a Multi-Regional Input-Output/Environmentally Extended Input-Output model to conduct subnational Ecological Footprint analyses and the allocation of our results to industrial sectors, final demand, and household consumption categories. We will develop a CGE model to better simulate economic transactions and their impacts on Ecological Footprint, potentially including forecasting impacts of policy choices. Depending on the specific qualifications of the intern, the start date, and the speed at which the project stages are completed, she or he will assist with some of the following tasks:
Summarize model strengths and weaknesses and assist in drafting paper based on findings from model runs.
